Re: What paste/spray to use wi ...
I decided to get some 5/3.5 micron paste for the balsa.. seems people really like that set up and also really like the 5/3.5 micron strops so I decided I should add that to my kit... Decided to get some kangaroo leather to try with the finer stuff
The description on wicked edge for the kangaroo leather says "These are my first choice when using compounds between .5 microns and .125 microns."

As others mentioned, using alcohol really helps in thinning the paste and getting it to work into the leather. I now use alcohol every time I apply paste.
I will try that next time I add paste can alcohol be used with all of the different types of strops? I ordered balsa ones and kangaroo leather ones.. Just wondering if alcohol will harm those at all?

Very nice work.
Did you use anything to keep the blade even in the vise? Puffy tape, mole skin etc.
I have a delica and an endura yet to do.
I just used some orange rustoleum brand painters tape on the blade where it goes in the vice mostly to keep it from getting scratched up

Thanks I think I need to work on my technique with whittling hairs.. every time I put one on the edge and pull a little bit it just beaks in half lol... I can rarely get it to actually take shavings off the hair

I'd just try working it in a little more... maybe a quick spritz of alcohol to help. (Work from fine to coarse, so if you accidentally cross-contaminate a strop a little... it won't affect it.)
I clean the edge with alcohol between strops to avoid cross contaminating.. seems to work well for me

Re: Blade getting covered with ...
I used a tip I saw in another thread for working the paste in better.. I took the two strops and rubbed them together to work the paste in.. seemed to solve my problems now they are working great

What paste/spray to use with b ...
Well I ordered a set of balsa strops and I also ordered the .25 and .125 micron sprays.. but before I get them and apply the sprays id just like your opinions if this is the best set up for these strops? and if not what would you recomend?
And since I already ordered the sprays what would you recommend I put those on

Blade getting covered with dia ...
When I strop im getting diamond paste all over my blade is this normal? the strops dont feel like they are over loaded with paste and i put as much on as the instructions said (1 inch line then smeared around with clean finger)
Seems like the edge would get much sharper if this wasnt happening..

How did you keep the angle exactly the same between coming off the Wicked Edge and using the Spyderco rods? Are there still plans to launch something that will allow you to mount Sharpmaker rods onto the WE?
I have the standard Sharpmaker kit (no extra rods) and would quite like to try using them if a way of mounting becomes available. Does anyone know what the grits of the regular Spyderco rods are?
Sorry it took so long for me to reply
The spyderco 306uf ultra fine stone is not a rod its a bench stone
It is very easy to tell if you are holding the proper angle with this stone by the way it feels/sounds

Re: Wicked edge upgraded arms ...
Im far from happy with this purchase... The one screw was so thight that while I was trying to work it back and forth hoping it would start to move easier like the other arm kind of did I bent the allen tool that comes with the wicked edge... I expected better than this out of such a high dollar piece of equipment...

Wicked edge upgraded arms micr ...
I got my upgraded arms for my wicked edge and they are great except the micro adjustment screws... They wre both very hard to move like they are stripped out or something (yes I loosend the thumb screws before trying to adjust them)
I got one of them to move ok by working it back and forth but the other is nearly impossible to adjust...

wicked edge to 1000 grit then ...
Welp was playing around with my wicked edge today.. put my delica 4 FFG on it and sharpened it up to 1000 grit (highest grit i have so far) at 15* on each side.. edge was pretty damn sharp.. but I wanted sharper so I reached for my spyderco 306uf ultra fine ceramic bench stone and did a few strokes on it that stone will give a mirror polish but i could not achieve that after just 1000 grit.. I then stropped it on the knives plus strop block and HOLY MAN.. I think I just found my favorite edc edge it has some tooth left.. will shave a bare spot on my arm no problem and zips through phone book paper like its not even there

That's awesome! Mine arrives tomorrow and I'm counting the minutes.
I can tell you right now you are going to love it! even if you only go to the 600 grit stones your knives will blow the factory edge out of the water... I got over the high cost of this system after I pulled my first knife I sharpened up on it (kershaw scallion) out of the clamp and felt the blade.. I could never get that knife sharp on a bench stone because of the recurve.. was no problem at all for the WEPS
