Last night I tried a few things which seem to be working and don't damage the kit.
I use the setscrews on the smooth side of the base bar, but I put 2 layers of scotch tape on it, the screw still grabs, and has yet to slip horizontally. When it gets chewed up, I scrape/peel it off, use a little goo gone, alcohol wipe, and reapply.

This is a TERRIBLE idea for the set screws on the arms. A ball of sticky melting tape goo works, but its a bear to clean out. So I came up with a better idea. Put a couple little pieces of a toothpick in the hole. The wood mashes, doesn't gum up the threads, and protects both screws as far as I can tell.

I love the riser, I love the new arms, the setscrew issue I would never have noticed, but would have suggested some sort of improvement. So as is... out of the box I give this a 90%. Once the set screws have been solved, it will be at 100%.

I really love this kit, and the family on the forum. It's a rare bunch that doesn’t go ballistic over every little thing, it's an even rarer (sp?) bunch that actively makes suggestions on improvements.

Anyhow, I'm babbling.

Let me know if the tape and toothpick thing works for you, or you're doing something different.

In my past life building better mouse traps, I've used a small piece of lead (e.g. split shot) when I didn't want to mar up a surface with a set screw. It holds really well and is easily removed when no longer wanted or needed.

Probably similar to what I get sharpening plane blades on the Shapton Glass Stones. The water doesn't soak in but helps keep the swarf from glazing over the stone. On the Shapton GS stones, the more you spritz, the better they cut and polish.

I've had good luck over the years with Comet and a scrub brush. I've been using it on my ceramic crock sticks for a long time.

I am extremely impressed by the WEP, but what keeps me from getting into it is/are the amount of items on back order. Seems like it's difficult to order everything one wants and not have half of it on back order indefinitely. Hopefully Clay gets his Vendors in line because I have to believe it is killing his sales based on comments from other sites I've read when they're comparing the WEP to the Apex EdgePro. I think the WEP looks far superior in design and function, but it's difficult to tell since stuff is back ordered. Just my $0.02 worth and obviously frustrated. I do not mean any slams against the product with my comments.

Ralph,
So are you going from the 1000 grit diamonds to the micro-fine ceramic paddles, or are you using something between them first?

I did the same thing, but I added a small piece of lead from a fishing split shot under the tip of the screw to keep it from scarring the arm. It also prevents it from slipping.

Given my order was caught up in the back order, I'd opt to wait a bit longer and get the new version instead of all the modifications I've heard people have been doing.

I just hate spending that amount of money for the Pro system only to receive it and find out this supersedes my brand new one before it even arrives. How about others that are waiting for delivery?
