Is this for every knife you put on the system, or just one specific one? Also, are they all the same kind of grind oe different kinds? Remember that fully flat ground blades need something tho keep them centered based on the geometry of the blade versus the WEPS system.

Does it get the name blue steel for the same reasons that guns are blued, or are these two completely different things. Oh btw, i know nothing about metal work or metal types, so forgive me if this is a silly question.

One idea might be to use a secondary clamp instead of the filet knife support. It seems to me the idea would be to keep it very thin, so instead of being as wide as the original clamp, it could be very thin. However you could run the clamp the length of the blade. For extra support from swaying left and right with the sharpening method, the base could make a cross. the clamp would not have to be as sturdy as the the main clamp because the point is only to hold the knife from moving laterally. The only issue i see is finding a material strong enough to be used in very thin pieces.

After reading through this i think i should explain better. If you took the exact same blade holder that exists now and add a simple clamp to the top and have that clamp be about 1 inch long. IN addition, instead of having just a single hole for the rod to sit in, make the base a cross or X shape with the legs about an inch or more. A simple set screw at the end of each leg would hold it in place. The inch long clamp would give enough material to stiffen the blade and the cross pattern base will provide lateral support.

Clay if this sounds even remotely possible, i can possibly draw it up if you want to get serious about looking into it. I may not be translating my thoughts into words, but i think this would be an easy mod to the current design that would give ample support; assuming you can make the clamp at the top work

I have two kimpers...a Raptor II and and stainless steel ultra carry 2. I love them both, especially the Raptor, which is a tack driver. One piece of advice i can give you is ammo. Be careful of the ammo you use. Crappy ammo will create problems. I have not had any problems with reloads, so long as ful metal jackets are used. Lead nose bullets jam my Raptor. Anyway, IMO you can't go wrong with a Kimber.

OK I'll Bite...
My name is Aaron. I live down in Jacksonville, FL. I am just shy of 30, and have been married for about 2.5 years. I grew up an avid off shore fisherman and actually had a chance to go pro on the Southern Kingfish Association tournament trail, but turned it down (thankfully). My real passion has been developing over the last 8 years or so, Hunting. I have always been extremely passionate about guns and the outdoors, and finally started getting out into the woods. Now i go as often as i can and have even gotten my wife interested into it. I used to shoot competition revolvers with the local Sheriff's Department and have shot in skeet competitions as well.
I think my love of knives came from my Great Grandfather, who always had a SHARP knife on him, and was always giving me one of his knives. it's unfortunate he died before i ever thought to ask him to teach me how to get my knives that sharp. I struggle to sharpen knives free hand, and have tried just about every gimmick out there to sharpen my hunting and fishing knives. i haven't ordered my WEPS yet, mostly due to the backlog and the lack of funds. But i suspect i will order the pro pack right around the first of the year (when hopefully there is no backlog! I'm not very patient.) I love benchmade knives as well as the classic Buck 110 folding hunter. I have a box full of knives, but those seem to be the knives i always gravitate to.

I don't know why something so common sense has always alluded me. Every time i have ever bought a knife with a lanyard, the first thing i always did was cut it off. I think i may have to go back and add them back, now that i know how to appropriately use them. Thanks for the great information.

Question About Filet ...
emo
Hello Guys
I am new to this forum and have yet to order my WEPS yet, however that will be happening soon. As an avid hunter and fisherman, the benefits of this tool are quite clear. My only question is how do I sharpen a filet knife. I have crawled all over this site and watched all the videos, and have yet to see this happen. It seems like the filet knife would be too flimsy at the end. I did notice that the standard WEPS mentions a stiffener, but the pro pack does not. Can anyone show a picture of how to sharpen a filet knife or perhaps upload a video.

Thanks!
