BM581 M390
I have a new folder coming this friday, does anyone have any experience with the M390 steel?
I will be using my WE to redifine the edge and make it shine.
Thanks

What is the mod to the swing arms, is it something we could do ourselves without needing to send it in.

What I have been doing to keep the bevel even is if the knife is centered and the point is at C on the scale I move the tip back to halfway in between B and C and this helps to keep the bevel even

Re: accessory stones
I think that you put on way to much paste, you only need about a one half inch long line of paste and rub that on the face of the strop.

Re: Bent Vice????
Could it be the vice is not bent but that the paring knife has a flat grind which does look like a gap along side the blade and clamp. Might just need to use double sided tape or something like thin leather to hold the flat ground blade in the clamp.

I don`t use any tools to tighten the clamp, but I do torque on it pretty hard by hand.

Re: Me and my story! Let's get ...
My 1911`s all run on a diet of reloads, I use a 200 gr lswc. I have had a colt and several Kimbers and they all ran fine. I dont have any of them left now, I am stuck with a Les Baer Premier II, a Ed Brown Kobra Carry and a Wilson Combat CQB compact. I guess I will just suffer along with these! Of these my Ed Brown is my favorite.

Re: Edge for butcher

You could also go thinner and if it doesnt last you can increase the angle a couple of degrees and just put a micro bevel on the knife. That way it cuts like a thinner knife but has the edge retention of a wider angle.
this is good advice` I bought a Kershaw skyline after watching the crazy swede shave with one and put a 15 degree bevel on mine and down to .5 diamond spray on a strop. Man did that thing come out sharp. but while field dressing a deer with it I rolled the edge. The cutting part went great but when I split the ribs that is when the edge rolled a little. So instead of resharpeneing to the original 15 degrees I put a 20 degree micro bevel on. It still seems very sharp. Now all I need is another volunteer deer that needs the ribcage split to see if this edge will roll or not.

I wonder if you can get rid of all the scratches with just the stones and then stropping?
Seems like the really polished edges are comeing from the water stones, and then under high magnification there still seems to be scratches.

Re: Looking for a good Hunting ...
The regular Stanley utility knife with a hook blade can be used for a gut hook, I use one when unzipping a coyote but have never tried it on a deer but I do think it would work great, gets dull just turn the blade around and when both ends get dull just pitch it and install a new one, the utility knife handle will hold several new blades, The whole setup is a lot cheaper than a regular knife with a guthook.

The double sided sticky tape that is about a 1/16 thick seems to work good too.

We have a few things in common, I also like the model 1911, got my first one while I was in the Navy in 1968. Currently I still own three. Wilson CQB compact, Ed Brown Kobra Carry and a Les Baer PII. I have a few benchmade folders and just picked up a Kershaw skyline. I also dabbled in knife making but ran out of interest and gave my forge, anvil, and tools to a good friend, I did keep my Burr King grinder.

Tom
Thanks for your earlier reply, I have an extra set of WE strops so I will go ahead and get the 1micron spray, would you recommend the .5 or .25 for the other side of the paddle?
Don`t worry about me trying to shave with the kershaw. I have had a beard for over forty years and have no plans to remove it. I do like a sharp knife though. My current sharpened knives will shave arms hairs very easily. I am not sure when someones says hair popping sharp what that really means. I would think whittle means to try and remove arm hair but have to saw a little bit. I havent been able to get one to cut newspaper like the crazy swede did on his first video. I also heard somebody say that they cut toilet paper cleanly.?
Thanks again
