Wusthof Classic 10" Slicer 10" .110 X50CrMo14 56-57 RHC 20 1k-1.6k Top C General purpose kitchen utility, cuts lots of vegg

Authors Comments:I'd love to go more acute than 20 degrees but the edge just won't hold long enough. I keep it just a little toothy to compensate and it performs well. This is my wife's favorite knife and she uses and abuses constantly.

Browning Kodiak FDT 3 Blade 3.25" .125" AUS-8 56-57 Skinner=20 Hide Blade=17 Skinner=3.5um Hide Blade=.25um Top A.5 Hunting, Field Dressing

Authors Comments:I've used this knife for over a decade to field dress hundreds of elk and have tinkered with a myriad of angles and finish levels. I finally settled on 20 degrees for the skinner with a moderately toothy finish of 3.5um and for a final bevel of 17 degrees for the hide blade with a polished finish of .25um. I relieved the shoulders on the hide blade down to 13 degrees and the added the micro-bevel. With continued stropping at 15 degrees, the edge is now nicely convex.

Cold Steel Black Sable 4" .125" San Mai III 58 HRC 18 primary bevel, 19 degree micro bevel 1600# Top B.5 EDC

Authors Comments:I originally created the bevels at 18 degrees and polished them to .5 microns before adding a micro-bevel at 19 degrees with the 1600# ceramic stones to give a mirrored bevel and slightly reduced shoulder while making the actual edge a little wider and giving it some micro teeth.

Benchmade 9500 Mini-Auto Stryker 2.9" .1" 154CM 58-60HRC 20 3.5um Top A.5 EDC

Authors Comments:I've experimented with this knife many dozens of times over the years. My conclusion is that the steel won't hold well under 20 degrees. It's important to treat the blade in two sections to preserve the tanto geometry. I don't recommend a convex edge because of the loss of some of the precision cutting. It's an excellent EDC, especially for any utility work.

Authors Comments:I have now tested the edge with a lot of whittling, edge shaved but not easily, stropping on 19 degrees took it back to a good razoredge.. Tony Pettersen "EDIT OUT - i think someone have placed their comment on this knife by mistake, idun is no lockback - EDIT OUT"
