September 2014 Newsletter

 fall leaves

Hello again to all our Wicked Edge users! It’s been a little while since our last newsletter and we have some new developments to share with you.

After a fairly low-key summer things are heating up again for autumn in Santa Fe. The aspen leaves are just beginning to change and the smell of roasting green chile is in the air. It’s even starting to get a little cold in the mornings, which is big news for New Mexicans after our usual scorching summer.

We’re gearing up for change here at the office as well. We’ve got some exciting new R&D in the works, a new partnership with one of the biggest names in the outdoor industry, and a new challenge to keep Wicked Edge enthusiasts busy for early Fall.

Hiking the Continental Devide

If you follow Clay’s blog, Sharpening Techniques, then you already know that Clay is preparing to take a 100 Mile hike up the Continental Divide. The trip will start near Wolf Creek Pass, Colorado and proceed for ten days all the way up to Silverton. With him he will be taking a single knife that has been sharpened on the Wicked Edge. Because there is a limit to how much one person can carry on a hike, bringing a sharpener for touch-ups is not an option. Clay will be taking a Fällkniven F1 for its low weight and durability. After some very promising tests in the Pecos Wilderness, we’re all looking forward to seeing how well a Wicked Edge will hold up after ten days of heavy use. To follow the trip and check out the details of Clay’s tests, check out Sharpening Techniques.

Bass Pro Shops

We are happy to announce that our upcoming partnership with Bass Pro Shops is well underway. We will be soon be selling Wicked Edge products in five as yet undecided Bass Pro locations. When these locations are chosen we will announce them in our newsletter. Select Bass Pro locations will also be offering sharpening services using our newest Professional Series sharpener.

Fall 2014 Challenge

For this season we have three-part challenge for all Wicked Edge users.

  1. Sharpen a knife to a mirror polish and post pictures on our forum.
  2. Pass at least Level 2 of the Hanging hair test as described here.
  3. Push cut the corner off a phone book.

We here at Wicked Edge will be doing this challenge ourselves and will be posting results on our Facebook and Instagram. You can post your own results on Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, or on our Forum. Good luck!

July 2014 Newsletter

It’s shaping up to be a busy July, following an equally active June, here at Wicked Edge. Blade Show, we’re happy to say, was a rousing success. We had a great time meeting old and new friends and fans of the Wicked Edge. If you missed us this year, don’t worry! We will be returning in 2015. Our next show is the New York Custom Knife Show in November.

The Father’s Day Sale was also a huge success, and we’d like to thank everyone who participated. We aren’t planning any more sales at the moment, but if we do hold one if the future, it will be announced on our Facebook page, so be sure to Like and Follow us to get the latest news.

Also in social media news, we’ve just started our brand new Instagram account! It’s great to see so many amazing knives with awesome edges and, as always, we love getting feedback. Come check us out at Officialwickededge!

New Product: 3 Micron Diamond Stones, Glass Platens, and Diamond Films

This month we are excited to introduce a whole new line of products! Wicked Edge now carries 6 variations of Diamond Lapping Film, Blank Handles and Glass Platens Pack to mount and use the Diamond Lapping Film, and 3 Micron Diamond Stones from DMT.

The Diamond Lapping Film is more aggressive than strops and is great for refining and removing scratches at a very fine level. The results they achieve are almost instantaneous. You will be able to watch the shine appear on your edge with just a few passes.

Each sheet of Diamond Lapping Film comes with 10 pre-cut strips that are sized for Wicked Edge handles and each strip will last for approximately 5-8 sharpening sessions. Diamond Lapping Film is a longer lasting and faster cutting abrasive than sandpaper that is better suited for polishing metal. This product should be used with the Blank Handles and Glass Platens Pack. The films are peel-and-stick so they are very easy to apply to and remove from the glass platens.

The brand new 3 Micron Diamond Stones are a great addition to any sharpening kit. They are designed to remove scratches left by the coarser diamond stones and further the refinement of your edge. The highly specialized technology needed to plate such fine diamonds is proprietary to our supplier, DMT, making these incredibly fine stones truly unique. Glass platens are mounted on the opposite side of the handles for use with the diamond lapping film of your choice.
